I'd be interested in the report on your phone line available at this web site:

Enter your number where it says : "Check Registration Levels"

Here's mine:

No Data

There is no data available for this number. This could be either because
this is not a BT line or this is a new number that is not yet recognised by
this checker. If this is a new number it may take up to 42 days from the
date of installation before it is recognised. If you still get this response
after this time please send an email through the "contact us" option on the
BT.com homepage, raising this issue, and we will investigate for you.

Thank you for your interest.

With a neighbour's number:

Fibre

For Telephone Number 01908230xxx on Exchange BRADWELL ABBEY

Our records show that we are using a fibre phone line technology to supply
phone service to your address. Unfortunately as a result of this you will
not be able to receive Broadband ADSL service for the time being, even if
your local exchange has been upgraded with Broadband ADSL.

Thank you for your interest.

What report do you get?

Here's some more possible reports:

Long Line

For Telephone Number 01908240xxx on Exchange BRADWELL ABBEY

Your exchange has broadband ADSL. Although the length of the telephone line between you
and the exchange is quite long, you may be able to receive broadband ADSL.

Our initial test on your line suggests that you may be able to have a broadband ADSL
service that provides up to 512Kbps download speed, but the upstream bandwidth will vary
according to the length of your telephone line. It will not be possible to provide the
1Mbps or 2Mbps broadband ADSL services.

If you decide to place an order, a further test will be performed to confirm if your
line is suitable, and if so for what speed of service.

Thank you for your interest.

Broadband isn't available (> 5km)

Sorry, broadband isn't available in your area

Your telephone exchange is Bradwell Abbey

We're sorry that even though broadband (ADSL) is available at this exchange, you're
too far away from the exchange for us to provide the service. ADSL is distance
dependent technology and can only be provided on a combined underground cable
and telephone distance of approximately 5km; as the total distance to your premises
is longer than this we're unable to provide the service.

Thank you for your interest.

Conclusion

Most Monkston respondents had a "Fibre Report".

"...you will not be able to receive Broadband ADSL service for the time being..." doesn't give much direction!

Clearly my card is marked: I have the "no data" report for my line. Troublemaker!
