Brian's CardMP's Surgery

I book time with Mr Brian White, our MP. He holds a surgery every Friday at 17:00 at the Civic Offices.

A surgery appointment seems to be the only successful way to communicate with the good man. Emails and letters do not result in replies.

Our MP:

  • is aware of our plight.
  • knows that BT is aware of our plight.
  • is encouraging a MUSH approach in the UK.
  • suggests our lobby group expands to include Giffard Park.
  • suggests that we contact:

    OFTEL
    DTI
    English Partnership
    BT
    MK Council
    Himself

MUSH

I left the meeting with mush in my mind. MUSH is today's new acronym. Municipalities, Utilities, Schools & Hospitals. MUSH is a Canadian initiative where private networks are made available to the public.

Hi Nick

I am an IT director for a large media firm in London. I am considering moving out of the area as I need broadband for my work.

I spoke to BT at length, and, as you have found out, they are not very responsive.

I had an opportunity to give them several million pounds worth of business (leased lines throughout UK and London) - but I told them flat out, if they could not deliver broadband to my house - what hope had they in delivering leased lines to my business? I promptly gave the project to Sprint.

It made my day..

But hey, less of that! With regards to getting wireless broadband, I have already been down that route, you will find MK council wants £5k per year per aerial (one every 3 to 5km on a lamppost) which makes the whole thing expensive for the end user. £50-£100 per month + install charges etc. This may have changed now, but I can put you in touch with the people I have been working with up at Linford Wood.

I'll get onto Marble Communications and register.

With regards to the council meeting, are the Council aware that Milton Keynes has been made a "laughing stock" due to its lack of infrastructure? I know people in the middle of fields in farmhouses that have ADSL - when they hear I can't get it they just laugh!!!

Adam, Blanchland Circle, Monkston.
