  • maps the compatibility of Council I.M Strategy projects against the project proposals from HBS and highlights some areas requiring to be addressed with HBS, (details including a financial analysis to be submitted as part of a separate PPP report)
  • notes success in securing funding contributions towards MKC e-government developments and outlines further initiatives and bids for external funding,
  • provides a summary of the development work undertaken by the I.T Service in 2002/03 and outlines the development plans for the next 3 years commencing 2003/04, and

Appendix 9

Outline of A New Broadband Network Development Initiative Being Supported By the Government – and Seeking MKC Support

The demand aggregation agenda has been elevated in importance and urgency and a lead government department has been identified to act as the anchor for the process. The importance of demand aggregation is that it creates economies of scale, leading to a reduction in the public sector communications bill and, more importantly, creates opportunities to increase the infrastructure available for local backhaul1 and therefore reduce the cost of such backhaul to local enterprises and community broadband organisations.
