BT Questions and Answers
ADSL Guide
reports that Fort William and Dingwall are also part of the long range trials.
Questions and Answers 3rd June 2004
A reminder:
There are plenty of places left on the trial and our
BT questions and answers page covers
everything from what to do if you're on the trial and your broadband service
isn't working to whether or not the number checker can be trusted and why
ISDN/HomeHighway customers are excluded from the trial.
Of special interest is a
BT answer posted on 21.5.04 which addresses the ISDN customers issue and
goes on to describe the purpose of the trial. Interestingly it discusses
issues affecting service as diverse as the 3rd (bell tone) wire and the
impact your internal wiring may have on broadband service.
- Q: I'm on the trial but my broadband service isn't working, am I
suppose to buy a filter or something?
BT: No, don't buy anything.
If your broadband service is not working or is only working
intermittently, contact your internet service provider. They should take
you through a series of diagnostics to determine where the problem lay.
If they can't resolve the problem, it is their responsibility to report
the fault to BT. They also make an appointment for a BT engineer to come
and try and fix the problem if necessary, agreeing an appointment with
you the customer.
The lead time on BT engineer to customer appointments is about two
working days, from the time your internet service provider logs the
fault. Two working days is our aim.
This is a trial and we are expecting a small number of initial failures,
but we have potential solutions and protocols we're ready to deploy to
try to get your broadband service up and running.
We apologise for the earlier delays in contacting customers who have
chosen BT as their ISP.
