I had broadband installed late week and it all works fine. My fellow
Broadband action group member that lives a few doors down from me still
can't get it though.
Liam, Walnut Tree |
| I sent this to Serena: I currently live in Paxton
Crescent, Shenley Lodge and remain disappointed that I can still not
get 'Broadband' here. Interestingly I have two lines into the house and when
I check through the BT Broadband checker one of the numbers is a maybe and
one a 'you live too far away'.
When enquiring about this via BT I was told that both lines were too far
away, When I later complained of connection speeds of 28kbs on either line I
was told that it was because the line was split to offer 2 phones and that
was 'about' the maximum that could be expected. Last weekend in desperation
I signed up to Freeserve Anytime. Since then my connection speeds on both
lines have risen and 40 to 42 kbps is the norm now. Very puzzling?
Perhaps you have an explanation for this? Of course Broadband would solve
the issues! When do BT plan to get this far out? We must be a mile away from
the nearest business requiring high speed Internet access.

I think the speed thing might be something to do with a "DACS"
(Digital Access
Carrier System) - a device, in the street, which BT tends to put all
over the place, to split one physical voice circuit into two. When you apply
for broadband they HAVE to remove the DACS - and so if you have two phone
lines they also have to do some rewiring to sort it out.
Usually the dial-up speed goes up as a result, as members have noted.
This happened to me - 28kbps became 37kbps - but of course the real
breakthrough for all of us is to get ADSL, reliably, throughout Shenley
Lodge and MK in general.
Keep hassling BT!
Neil, Shenley Lodge[I've been considering the reports several members
have made regarding dial up speed improvements.
It could be that BT are surreptitiously running in new cables to wrong
foot NTL. One day soon BT will announce that broadband is available to all

You recently sent a mail to anyone that had applied for the NTL Trial and
hadn't heard anything. You sent a mail to me saying that NTL was going to
"check my address". The same result for my father in Great Holm. Neither
of us have heard a thing, I even emailed NTL 2 weeks ago with no reply?
David, Shenley Lodge [I know there is some activity at Bow Brickhill. I'll
forward this reply to our friends at
NTL and the Council:
we may get instructions on when to proceed with the new applications.] |
| I would just like to say a huge thank you to you and also
to those others who are spending their own time helping to resolve these
issues within the local area. Your help voicing everyone’s issues is very
much appreciated. Thanks again
Kind Regards
