Friday 19th December
Milton Keynes Village and Middleton Cabling
 A
couple of men from Skanska and a huge drum of telephone cable were
spotted on the H7 V10 roundabout this morning at 09:00.
They're running in new cable for Broadband.
By 11:00 they had progressed along to Claridge Drive, near Bowling Leys.
They are pulling in several runs of 200 pair 0.63 cable, Belden's finest
CW1224. An 800 pair cable had already been run in to the exchange at
Bradwell Abbey. "We've got to get the work done before Christmas."
I'm 100% certain that this is for Broadband.
This puts Middleton at the same state as Monkston in
June. The first resident was connected
in September. |
Squeezing a report out of BT
I phoned Serena at BT to find out what was going on.
She said that there was a lot happening and that we would have some pleasant
news in the New Year.
I tried to squeeze a formal announcement from Serena,
but I was told to be patient and wait until the New Year.
Serena followed this up with an email: "We [wish to] ensure a simple
experience for our customers. It is not just a case of updating a database...
there is a lot more involved. Please be reassured that the team are working very
hard to ensure that what needs to be done is done as quickly as possible."
Further news, when received, will be linked from this page...

They are obviously lost, they should be laying it on the V11 between H3
and H4. I'll go and tell them.
Yours...
Concerned of Willen |
I agree with "Concerned of Willen", except it should be on
V10, Willen Park needs BB now!

Oh! Maybe an Xmas present from BT...
I'll look out for white vans around my way in Loughton.
Ta,
Rob[Please report any suspicious looking white vans to
me or
the mailing list.] |
Maybe they'll work their way south a little

If you can work your magic for Linford as well.....

I need Kents Hill doing though - Ticehurst Close in
particular. :) Mind you, I was on Middleton today and I did see a nice house
for sale!!
Maybe...

Wish they were doing something in Great Linford! I went
onto the BT site and re-registered my interest to find that my exchange is
still "too far away"
BT says "For Telephone Number 01908****** on Exchange BRADWELL ABBEY -
Your exchange has ADSL broadband. However, the length of the telephone line
between you and the exchange is too long for ADSL broadband. However, we are
continuing to look for alternative technology solutions and will keep you
updated with developments as they happen."
I reckon we'll have men living on mars before Great Linford gets BB!!

Does this mean that Middleton is going to get broadband?

I've just moved to Shenley Lodge from Shenley Brook End
where I was living with my parents. I used to have a 2Mb line over there
where I was connected the Shenley Church End exchange. Now having moved the
Shenley Lodge, my nearest exchange is Bradwell Abbey, which can only offer
512k instead. Is there anything that can be done to remedy this, by BT?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Reza, Shenley Lodge |

I'm a Broadband Operations Manager in BT Wholesale. My parents currently
live on Heelands in Milton Keynes and are unable to get DSL because of the
distance from Wolverton exchange which they are connected to, they are just
out of limits apparently.
I get a lot of ear bashing I can assure you!
Anyway, this is just a short mail to offer any help I can to your group in
making Broadband more widely available in Milton Keynes. I work on the
repair side of the business but obviously I have access to the wider
organisation. |
Have you kept the EP site under review?

http://www.englishpartnerships.co.uk/pages/page_04.asp?PageID=256
http://www.englishpartnerships.co.uk/pages/page_01.asp?PageID=435And also the
SEEDA site?

Which is the satellite MK version promoter. Perhaps they need to be
lobbied for a role in cabling - or putting pressure on BT.
I suspect that you know the ropes as well as I do, but thought it worth
saying above. Also, you will want to keep an eye on the ODPM site if we have
keyworker housing, This will be delivered under the ODPM
Sustainable
Communities Plan.
Look on the ODPM site below under
sustainable communities. See 'The Communities Plan'
link.
I am certain that you have already been effective, but have you
considered perhaps putting pressure on EP/SEEDA/ODPM via local MPs and
Councillors.

| ODPM. My personal favourite is this stunning
initiative. |
I have moved home to Wolverton; I can now get broadband!

I have just received a call from BT saying that I can have
Broadband, I couldn't believe it because I have just had another line put in
so that I could do two things at once, anyway the news is I can get
Broadband in Walton Park apparently.

| Having received my first Newsletter from BB4MK I decided to
use the recommended checker to see if any miracles have occurred since I
last checked for BB availability from Bradwell Abbey Exchange. I have 2
lines and tried both. The first number was the old "Sorry not available from
Bradwell Abbey Exchange due to distance etc". The second number was typed in
and, "Good News your Exchange now has ADSL Broadband etc" How is this
possible? One house, 2 lines from same exchange, yet the distance is OK for
one line, and too far for the other. I don't get it. (no pun intended)
:-))
