| Can anyone
summarise who has successfully got ADSL in Middleton (Fire station
side). I've failed an ADSL rest and an extended reach trial test, but
recently I've seen people with successful connections in Deacon Place &
Hilbeck Grove. Since I live just the other side of Noon Layer Drive (in
Wolston Meadow) I'm surprised about my lack of success. [7 members of
the MK Broadband Action Group live in Wolston Meadow. I have had NO reports
from them with news of success with BT ADSL.]
Do you think disconnecting the internal extension wiring will help (since I
don't use it)? How do I go about getting BT to perform the test again
(rather than just looking in the database).
I saw another wireless installation over at Halswell Place (on a Bungalow)
whilst walking the little 'un, as well as the one on Claridge Drive. Matt.
[Dave writes: The antenna on the bungalow near Halswell Place is an old
Ionica antenna. (Ionica had it survived would have happily provided people
with ISDN). The Ionica System was a British designed system down at Northern
Telecom in Paignton Devon. The Ionica antenna may have confused
some people into thinking that it was the system used in the Wireless trial
which it isn't. The Wireless trial antenna is about the same size
as a an average paperback book and is similarly rectangular. The Ionica
antenna as you know is recognisable by its hexagonal shape.
Glad to hear that you are able to share by WLAN IEEE 802.11 or similar your
neighbour's broadband bandwidth. It is a shame that such an obviously simple
and affordable solution as that cannot be implemented by the likes of BT to
get over its muddy bit of string posing as the local loop.
I'm surprised that BT haven't offered areas like Middleton wireless
broadband perhaps using WLAN or WLL as an alternative to the 'legacy' System
we are stuck with today.] |
