So many emails flying around recently - can you answer this question for
me: is Broadband now available for Bridlington Crescent residents? [Slowly..
I'm keeping a list here.]
Yours hopefully !!!!!!!
Toby, Monkston |
Just had an activation date from Zen.
"Your ZenADSL Home 500 account will be activated on Thursday 25th September
2003"
I'll keep you all posted on 25th, fingers crossed.
Cheers,

So if you can convince ISP's to put orders through why are
they still failing BT's line survey?
Jamie, Monkston
[It's not a line survey. The ISP's rely on BT Wholesale who are looking
up incorrect information on a database that has not been updated with the
recent improvements.
These problems should be resolved in a few days. The work has been done. The
ISP's need to know it has been done.
This is a "process" issue within BT.] |

I too would like to be able to have broadband service in Great Linford -
better still from a rival company - so we are not all slaves to BT.
Competition is key, BT is slow to react to market forces and has only given
concessions when forced to by OFTEL.
I don't accept anything BT says at face value If there are alternatives we
must pursue them.
Elephants don't win races - newer smaller companies can easily out perform
BT.
You are right to point out that Milton Keynes is an untapped market for
these services.
At one time we only had 4 TV channels, until SKY came along and shook up the
complacent BBC and ITV.
The same opportunity exists for all sorts of communications products like
broadband.
David, Great Linford |
I have read your articles with great interest.
I too want an ADSL connection and suffer from the same old BT claptrap. I am
an ex BT employee Radio/Line/data transmission engineer working for C&W now.
What BT are telling us is down to finance not technical capability of ADSL.
This area is now a NTL franchise bought from BT and even NTL cannot get
their act together.
My line is parented on Bradwell Abbey exchange which is ADSL enabled but
have been told I am in excess of 5.5km from their MDF.
[Their MDF is lurking in a building in Fishermead.]
Long reach trials are underway but I have heard nothing on implementing for
us poor souls. You probably have investigated feasibility and know all the
in and outs already but I would like to join your campaign for all the poor
souls in this area who are being fobbed off.Regards
Frank, Bolbeck Park |
I think that the problems for Middleton is two fold:
1, The distance from the exchange, which is not THAT far as the crow flies,
but is somewhat longer as supplied by BT.
2, A technician told me that the cabling to Middleton is low/cost poorer
quality cable which is acceptable for voice but not for ADSL.
Clearly BT is a Telecommunications provider. In this respect it is woefully
inadequate as it cannot supply what most people consider a
basic service to its customers.
regards,
Dave, Middleton |
| When you look on the BT site and use the ADSL line checker,
where is the answer coming from? David
[The answer comes from a database compiled from records of the various
cable lengths and gauges that make up the line to your phone. It is not a
real time test of the line.] |
