We Meet BT
We had an meeting with BT. It over ran - that's a good sign!
Here's the agenda and
report.

I used to work for a well know pharmaceutical where we tried to put
broadband in for 600+ home workers around the UK with very mediocre coverage
success.
I am just about to start a new job and have people in MK who will most
likely end up working with/for me as a result.
As well as being interested in what the Council's trial brings as ROI for
NTL and how they would feel about other areas (as I will have a lot of
Scottish and Northern Irish staff and this could be an excellent solution -
community investment etc etc). Also, the ability to move away from
dependency on the BT offering would be good as a fail over/diverse routing
scenario when using ADSL for commercial needs and critical home workers
(ISDN backup is very slow and expensive).
Add this to possibly getting an ISP who is prepared to offer a defined
agreed and enforceable service level agreement rather than the Zen "Its BT's
fault" and the BT "Talk to your ISP" and you'll see why you have my
attention. Terry |
I have an urgent requirement for broadband now from home
where I shall be doing some consulting and have the need to perform webinars
(online seminars of software products).
Is there any way that I can ensure that I get on the wireless pilot?[I
can only suggest that you make your case with
Mr Jewell at the
Council.]

I just saw my first
wireless broadband transceiver being installed in Great Linch in Middleton
today by NTL. This is to test the stability of
the system that is installed on Linford Wood Tower.
There is hope for us poor wretches in Middleton, the 60dB+ attenuated
telecommunications underclass of Milton Keynes. Assuming it works and the
roll out goes ahead, the next thing will be to get NTL to crank up the
bandwidth from 150K to something a bit more thigh trembling.
I live in hope.

I live in Middleton in Wolston Meadow and can't believe the lack of
service from BT. Have asked my company to see what other options I may
have, wireless etc. Milan |
Thank you for having the brains to put an excellent battle
plan together.
We received a note through the door today.
We are extremely frustrated with the services being offered in Great Linford
by BT. I have telephoned BT 150 several times to enquire about broadband for
Great Linford and also ask for a map showing broadband enabled areas for
friends looking to move into the City......nice people who cannot really
help.
I will ask my neighbours to e-mail their details.
I'm sure that the Citizen would be extremely interested to hear about the
level of support for your campaign.
Best wishes

Looks like I'm nearly there!
Just had this update from Zen.
"I have just contacted BT to find out what is taking your order so long.
They inform me that they are waiting for an engineer to do some work on your
line, they have scheduled this work for today 22/09/03 and Wednesday
24/09/03, once this has been completed we will be able to provide you with
more information."
Fingers crossed this will be the final hurdle.....
Cheers,
Jon, Monkston |
After letting my application with Zen stay in limbo for a
month, I finally called them up today. The inevitable news soon followed - I
failed the line test for the extended reach trail.

I've read all of your diatribe about broadband for MK and I
have had the same problem getting ADSL.
I frequently work from home and, being in the IT industry, use the Internet
all the time. I use a dial-up connection at present which will be almost
impossible in the long term. I heard about the pilots being conducted for
wireless and checked it out but it looked like MK wasn't in the scope.
I would very much like to get broadband access to my house and am available
for wireless pilot tests (subject to grade II building listing
restrictions).
I have signed up for the pilot from the link on the web site, and am more
than happy for you to include my details in any petitions that you are
carrying out.
Best of luck with the campaign!
Dave, Great Linford |
I would like to say a very big thanks for all your hard
work and commitment over the past times without ADSL.
The fact is no one in Monkston would have ADSL today or for that matter
tomorrow, if it wasn't for your persistent driving of the bureaucratic BT
(and Others) organisation. I has taken a mammoth effort.
We all appreciate your assistance and help with this, and it has a life
altering effect for a lot of us. (ADSL is brilliant)
With this in mind, can you organise (in a week or so) an evening out at the
Swan. Where I know I will and I'm sure others will, provide you with alcohol
in gratitude for your selfless act in chairing and driving this committee. I
will stretch to buy you a tube of Pringles.
P.S. When will your ADSL be activated?
Thanks again.

Join me up to your quest for Broadband (I live in Kents
Hill), I work in High Wycombe at a software company but would be able to
work from home 50% of my time if I had Broadband.
It's pathetic the excuses they give.
Let me know what I can do to help
Cheers
