Interested in lobbying BT for Broadband access?

Monday 18th August
Communication from the Council
I've received an extensive email from Mr Jewell, our friend at the Council. I
had previously asked him about:
1, Eventual pricing for customers after the pilot,
2, A date for the registration web site to be pulled.
Regarding the eventual pricing from ntl - this is yet to be
confirmed
but I understand they will market their ntl broadband home products
which are, I think, in 3 basic packages and competitively priced. We will
aim to provide information on this during the pilot as part of a
continuing communication and publicity process.
I need to call a cut off point at some stage for registrants. I
believe we have currently got around 270 and we are unlikely to be able
to connect everyone (due to signal strength/line of sight issues) but we
want a big enough pool to be able to achieve our aim of having at least
two hundred connected.
Could you keep the site registration page open until
31st August? |
Progress with TPON in Monkston
Talking
with Serena, our contact at BT, I have learnt that two guinea pigs have been
chosen from Monkston. Their application for ADSL will be monitored closely
by a BT project manager.
If successful, the rest of the estate will follow. I will have more news on
Wednesday the 20th.
There are 109 members of our group that live in Monkston.
Here's a list of happy residents. |
Please note Serena's new number: 01908 293036. The old one is now defunct.
Zen and BT's Extended Reach Trial
I emailed the group with:
If anyone is still interested in the BT Extended Reach Trial it might not be
too late to get on it.
If you wish to complete an application for the trial with ZEN, please click
on the link below and place an order. You must submit your order by Monday
18th August to qualify for participation in the trial. Orders will be
submitted on a strictly first come, first served basis.
Please note that this Extended Reach trial is not open to customers
converting from ISDN2, or BT Highway.
http://www.zenadsl.com/ExtendedReach/RegConfirm.aspThe order tracker will show the order as failed. Do not worry about this as
it all part of the process to confirm that your line returns a red result.
ZEN will then send these orders to BT on 19th August. |

I'm still far away from the exchange even with extended reach. As I'm in
the process of setting up a software company, I have decided to move from MK
due lack of broadband services.
All I can say is good luck for the future.
Can please remove from your membership list.

| Just spoken to Serena. Again very nice lady, probably very
stressed with people like me calling.
She did enlighten me on a few issues:
1: TPON. Although as we saw from some emails, there are issues with this but
they are due to be completed by the 20th Aug (Wednesday). From there, two
customers will be the pilot, if everything goes well then she will contact
Nick and we all go from there.
I believe the two customers have been chosen.
2: ISDN Home Highway testing. To test a line, an engineer would have to
remove the ISDN and install PSTN to test. The engineer can put the ISDN back if
all goes wrong, there and then!!!
This was for all of us that thought we would loose the ISDN if it all
goes pear shaped!

I'm happy to join the lobby group for all the reasons you correctly state on
your site.
I live in Loughton, and am 'slightly too far' from the
Bradwell Abbey
exchange. The dated infrastructure has been an 'issue' for me for over 20
years! The situation is pathetic. As the guy who physically climbed the
rooftops to install the first broadband wireless for schools some five or
six years ago, I'm naturally galled at the prospect of being the last person
in Milton Keynes to receive broadband!!!
MK businesses should be fuming too!!!
All the best

Following a recent application for extended ADSL to Plusnet, I have been
successful in obtaining broadband in the Old Farm Park area and I am getting
a bandwidth speed of 400-500 kbps.
I wish you all the best for future in getting broadband access for those who
want it in MK.

Stuart, Old Farm Park |

Another success in Old Farm Park: I am now live with Eclipse!

Peter, Old Farm Park |
Can you please remove me from the membership list: we are
moving away from Milton Keynes.
Darren, Crownhill |
Many thanks for all the help on this. We are now moving to
a broadband enabled area in Crownhill!
If you could remove me from the list that would be lovely.
Wish you all the best
Marc, Monkston |
| We talked to Serena about our slight problems with
BT. They had taken our order and bounced it back a week later.
BT say we are on a fibre optic line. We cannot get Broadband. When Serena
checked out our bounced order, which took a while as initially she just gave
us a helpline number, and had the line tested it was registering a not very
powerful COPPER signal. She has now gone away to scratch her head!
Much confusion!! But we have had a letter from MK Council about their trial.
But we think that they should have given some idea of ongoing cost's for
after the free trial. Some people may want to back out if it is more
expensive than other packages.
Anyway, we all hope you are enjoying the summer. Our front lawn looks dead.
Nothing new there, it was planted by KingsOak!
Regards
Rachel, Monkston |
